Vocational Action Network

Looking For Employment?

JFCS offers Vocational Support Services designed to benefit the unemployed and under-employed in our community.

We offer individual and group support aimed at addressing both the emotional and practical barriers to successful reemployment. We offer support with career assessment, resume and cover letter building, networking, career transitioning, and skill building.

Our vocational counselor is available to meet with clients individually to assess goals and needs.

We also offer a weekly drop-in support group designed to deliver an emotionally supportive environment for clients to address their employment needs and goals.  The group is a space for participants to share their experiences and resources with others going through the job-search process.  We explore techniques and approaches that have been shown to help participants get jobs.  Furthermore, we look at developing strategies aimed at addressing the emotional hardship of being unemployed.  By addressing these issues we can help even our longer term unemployed clients present themselves in the best way.

Employers & Community Members:

We need your help.

Current unemployment in Oregon is 10.6%, significantly higher than the national average.  Given the high unemployment rate, there may be people in our community who are struggling to find jobs, unaware of the support services in the community.  Furthermore, there may be employers that have job opening and are having difficulty finding the right person.  Those who have requested help include recent graduates, older adults, struggling parents, and others. The severity of the current unemployment crisis has exposed new people to the job search experience.  There is a desire for community members to help those in need. Through the JFCS Vocational Action Network, we aim to bring these groups together.

Building networking relationships in the community is important to overcoming the current employment environment.  Those of us who know about job openings, or are in positions to hire, can provide those in need with a rich source of information about employment opportunities and trends.  JFCS hopes to offer employers a single source to share their knowledge with our clients.
