Current And On-Going Volunteer Opportunities
Transportation Aide
This position matches a volunteer with older adult or disabled client for the purpose of assisting client's with transportation to various appointments or functions. This opportunity requires maturity and sensitivity, as well as a good driving record & insurance coverage of $100,000-$300,000.
Friendly Visitor
This volunteer is needed to provide friendship and support to an isolated elderly person who has a limited social network. The volunteer travels to a client?s home, or another agreed upon location in the community, to provide companionship & listening skills in a consistent and caring manner.
General Clerical Assistant
Assistants are occasionally needed to work on bulk mailing projects, stuffing envelopes, photocopying, filing, making phone calls, and other miscellaneous office tasks.
ESL Instructor
This position is used to match a volunteer tutor with a new immigrant in order to assist the newcomer in learning and improving their English skills and to help him or her adapt to their new life. This volunteer should be comfortable with individuals from other cultures. Foreign language fluency is a plus.

Project-oriented volunteers may serve in a variety of ways, depending on agency needs including:
Thanksgiving Food Boxes
The Monday before Thanksgiving, staff and volunteers assembled Thanksgiving food boxes and made deliveries to families in need.
Mitzvah Menorah/Holiday Gifts
JFCS partners with the Portland Jewish Academy to bring Hanukkah, Christmas & holiday gifts to children, families & seniors in need.
Passover Food Boxes
JFCS clients are fortunate recipients of Passover Food Boxes for their Seder celebration, given from the generosity of Kesser Israel. Volunteers assemble and deliver these boxes to client homes.
Seder Dinner
Every year JFCS, in partnership with The Sisterhood of Congregation Beth Israel, provides a passover Seder Dinner for elderly and disabled JFCS clients. Many of these individuals require volunteer transportation assistance to and from the event.
